Luisa Stefani, ranked number 20 in the world, will have to wait one more day to make her debut at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season, taking place in Melbourne. The three-hour delay due to rain resulted in the postponement of her match alongside Dutch player Demi Schuurs. The match, originally scheduled for court 14, has been rescheduled to Wednesday night (17) – Thursday afternoon (18) in Australia – starting at approximately 10:30 PM (Brasília time), as the second match in the same location. They will face the Romanian Sorana Cirstea and the Croatian Donna Vekic.
Two other Brazilians are playing in the doubles. Thiago Wild and Argentinean player Sebastian Baez will face French player Alexander Muller and Austrian player Sebastian Ofner at the same time, on court 12. Marcelo Demoliner and New Zealand player Marcus Daniell will open the program on court 6 against wildcard entrants John Millman and Edward Winter. Millman is playing his last tournament of his career.
Marcelo Melo did not have a successful start to his tournament, as he and his Dutch partner Matwee Middelkoop fell to the number 3 seeds, American player Rajeev Ram and British player Joe Salisbury, in a close match that ended with a score of 7/6 (7/4) 7/5.
